Welcome to Oahu!
Oahu is Hawaii's most highly populated island. It is also home to some of Hawaii's most famous landmarks.
The best way to see Oahu is to rent a car. Rental cars are available at multiple locations including the airport in Honolulu. Driving around the island you will be able to stop and sightsee without the strict schedule of a tour bus.
Some sights to see on Oahu:
Waikiki Beach, of course!
Diamond Head crater
Punch Bowl cemetery
Pearl Harbor Memorial (don't skip the movie!)
Hanauma Bay (killer snorkeling!)
Haleavea Joe's on the North Shore
Polynesian Cultural Center (best luau on Island)
Honolulu Zoo
Ala Moana Mall
Bishop's Museum
Oahu's North Shore
Ward Center (shopping and movies)
Iolani Palace
Waikele Outlet Mall
Aloha Stadium Swap Meet
Don't miss the hike up Diamond Head for spectacular views! The hike is about an hour of sometimes loose pavement and the strange little crawl-through at the top may prove difficult for larger travelers, but the journey is worth the trouble.
A Note About Waikiki Hotels:
Hotels in Waikiki are EXPENSIVE. Almost triple mainland prices. If you have the cash, stay at one of the nicer hotels. Even the $200/ night rooms are a little disappointing. Don't expect much for your money and, if possible, ask for a tour or photo of the room you are promised before booking. You may be surprised at the small rooms, but the views cannot be beat.
Rainbows will follow you where ever you go on Oahu. It seems to be a constant occurrence to look to the mountains and find yourself amazed by another perfect rainbow. Take pictures! Enjoy! You sure don't get THAT on the mainland.
